Scrappy Angie's: The BIG reveal of the new BIG SHOT Part 1

BIG news! BIG news! The new Sizzix Big Shot™ Machine is finally here ;) If you haven't gotten yours - you may want to get one after today's review.

I will be going through with you step-by-step on the unboxing of a brand new pretty Powder Blue &Teal Big Shot and a tip on how to make your very own 3D flowers!

***

Here's the pretty box that you will get when you buy the Big Shot.

What's inside is even prettier! Take a look :)

Now to assemble the handle. There are instructions provided but I've shown the order of parts below (from left to right).

(1) Remove the temporary cap from the side of the machine
(2) Take the alan key and screw the parts into place using the order as photo above
(3) Place the cap on and you're done!

In the box, you will also get two standard cutting pads & the extended multipurpose platform - allowing consumers instant compatibility to Sizzix chemically-etched dies – including Sizzlits Decorative Strips Dies – and embossing tools.

The extended multipurpose platform comes in 3 tabs - #1, #2 and <no number>. This comes with your "recipes" on how to sandwich your pads with your dies.

Today, I will be showing you how to make 3D flowers using your new  Sizzix Big Shot™ Machine !

I am using the Spellbinders Shapeabilities Spiral Blossom Four die with some felt. This is considered a wafer-thin die so look at your extended multipurpose platform to see the recipe.

** Here's the detailed step-by-step of the recipe **
(1) Place your extended multipurpose platform on your Big Shot machine with all tabs down
(2) Place your die on the platform with the cut ridges facing upwards
(3) Place your felt (or any other material) on your die - good side facing down
(4) Place both your cutting pads on top of the felt

Note: This recipe does not apply for all types of dies.

Then roll it through your Big Shot!

#Do not be nervous if you hear cracking sounds - as that is the die pushing against the pads.  The cracking will actually cause the pads to be scratched and seem cracked - but do not worry, it is not broken.

#Also, do take note if your material is thick - like the felt, you may want to roll it a few times thru the machine. You can do this by just reversing the motion of your handle - and then go back in the opposite direction.

(1) After cutting, carefully remove the felt from the die
(2) The bigger circle end is the base - so start rolling towards the middle (tightly)
(3) Once you reach the end,  place it on a flat surface and fluff out your flower by loosely moving the petals around
(4) Once you are satisfied - put some glue to the base and stick your flower down.

Here's the completed 3D flower.. isn't is so pretty??

I've used the same techniques above and used double sided patterned paper instead to create more flowers.

Here's my finished card with some additional die cut flourishes.

Do come by next week to see how I made the flourishes and for some amazing flowers made using Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die!

Thanks for the overview and demo, I stopped by your blog for the Great Impressions challenge but just had to check this out. I'm considering getting a big shot instead of another cuttlebug.
